To register on the SmartMatter app, you will need an access code if SmartMatter has been appointed by your property manager to measure, track, and bill services at your property. The following steps will guide you through the app registration process.
1. Check your Welcome SMS
Once your property manager has created your account on the SmartMatter platform, you will receive a SMS with your unique 6-digit Access Code, along with a link to the relevant app store where you can download the app. This access code is your unique identifier that acts as reference to your account. It remains unchanged throughout the active status of your account with your property manager.
Didn’t receive a SMS? If you did not receive your welcome SMS with your Access Code, please check your message spam & blocked folder or contact your property manager to request it again.
2. Download and Install the App
Download and install the SmartMatter mobile app from your preferred app store by tapping the button below or search “SmartMatter” in your app store.
3. Start registration with your code
After installing the SmartMatter app, select Set up My Account. Enter the access code from the welcome SMS and tap Next.
4. Confirm your personal details
In step 1 of registration, you need to confirm your full name and mobile number is correct.
You can correct your first and last name. However, if your mobile number is incorrect, please contact your property manager with the accurate number to update it on the system before continuing with registration.
If all your personal details are correct, tap on the Send Verification Code to continue.
5. Verify your mobile number
You’ll receive a second SMS containing a 4-digit verification code. Enter this one-time-pin on step 2 of the registration process. Tap Next to continue.
Didn’t receive a SMS? Check your spam SMS folder or wait up to 60 seconds before requesting the OTP again via the Resend OTP button. Alternatively, go back to step 1 to make sure the number is correct. The code will only be valid for 10 minutes, after which a new random code will be generated. Should the issue persist, please email support@smartmatter.co.za.
Why is this needed? This verification process prevents unauthorized access and boosts your account's security. It confirms your contact details and ensures you don't miss important account-related information.
6. Set your login details
Enter your email address and set a strong password as prompted on the screen.
Email Address: This serves as your SmartMatter account username. We might send account-related emails, so it's vital that it's valid for validation in the next step. If a red error indicator shows, try using a different email address.
Password: Your security matters. When selecting a password, ensure your password:
- Is at least 8 characters long
- Includes at least 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase letters
- Contains at least 1 number
- Features 1 special character: !@#?/-
After registration, you can enable biometric login (if your device supports it) or set a PIN for faster access next time.
7. Verify your email address
Because your email address is your username, we need to verify that your email is valid and correct. Check your email client app. You will receive an email containing the 4-digit verification OTP. Enter this 4-digit verification code on the screen titled “Verify your email address” and press Next.
Didn’t receive an email? Check your spam folder or wait up to 60 seconds before requesting the OTP again via the Resend OTP button. Alternatively, go back to step 3 to make sure your email is correct. The code will only be valid for 10 minutes, after which a new random code will be generated. Upon your first login you will be prompted to complete the in-app tutorial that will give you a layout of the app and the embedded functionality. Your account is all set up and you are ready to top up your SmartWallet.
